Welcome to Freshwater Small Engines, where excellence meets integrity. We're a family-owned, local business rooted in the heart of North Queensland. Our journey began with two passionate individuals: Steven, a certified mechanic and youth worker, and Sharni, a Disaster Management professional and Environmental Earth Scientist.

Our Story
Our Story
Our story starts at the local Freshwater landfill, where we saw the impact of North Queensland's environment on outdoor power equipment and other small engines. Steven and Sharni were curious about why so many valuable machines ended up discarded, contributing to unnecessary waste. They discovered that one major cause was stale fuel clogging carburetors during the dry season. Additionally, a lack of proper cleaning and maintenance was a significant issue.
Realizing that education was key, Steven and Sharni set up their first shop in a local landfill, rescuing and revitalizing discarded equipment. They secured the necessary licenses, business insurance, and an ABN, officially establishing Freshwater Small Engines. Today, as a husband and wife team, they're committed to educating the community on saving money, reducing waste, and prolonging the life of their power equipment.

Steven: With over 20 years of experience, Steven is passionate about combustion engines. His background includes working on Australian Rally Championship cars and collaborations with brands like Holden, Toyota, and Hyundai. He also enjoys Nitro RC and 4WDing and is a certified Life Raft Servicer, Community Youth Worker, and Diver.
Sharni: With 20 years of experience in Earth and Environmental Science and Disaster Management, Sharni is a problem solver passionate about helping vulnerable individuals. She has extensive experience working with government and organizations to provide emergency relief and support to disaster-affected communities.

With over 20 years of experience in the industry, Steven is a qualified mechanic who loves combustion engines. He has worked with various aspects of the Automotive industry, such as building and servicing Australian Rally Championship cars, importing and maintaining Japanese vehicles, and collaborating with brands like Holden, Toyota and Hyundai. Steven also has a knack for repairing and selling lawn and ride on mowers, which he developed as a young lad and continued to practice over the years. Steven's skills are not limited to mechanics; he is also a certified Life Raft Servicer, a Community Youth Worker, and a certified Diver. Steven enjoys Nitro Rc and 4WDing as his hobbies.

Sharni is a problem solver who has a lot of hands-on life experience and a sense of adventure. She has 20 years of experience and qualifications in Earth and Environmental Science, Disaster Management, Community Recovery, Music, and Hospitality. She is passionate about helping vulnerable people in need and has volunteered at various organisations that offer emergency relief, support, and advocacy for them. Her hobbies are Disaster Management, Community Engagement, Art, Music, Earth Science and Gardening.
